the DMC timeline in a nutshell, I guess

This might be a little late but the dmc Netflix series trailer dropped and it made me think, hmm, which game or novel will be adapted in this? . So I thought, let’s research babyy. This is a kind of nutshell timeline video and so, I won’t be talking about every game or novel story, I will be talking about their arrangement in the timeline. So without further ado , let’s get into it. channel intro?

So for that, we will need to know the story and the timeline of this franchise. **screenshot of the time of vid and UGH sound effect **

Now , if you don’t know what Devil May Cry is , then -

Devil May Cry is an action-adventure game franchise created by Hideki Kamiya.

Hideki Kamiya is a Japanese video game designer and director. He directed Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, and Ōkami, all amazing games.

Devil May Cry is developed and published by Capcom.

The series centers around the demon hunter Dante and later on, many others join to defeat demons from taking over the world, etc.

Yeah, so that’s it for the introduction, now let’s move onto the real topic.

The rant:

Devil May Cry franchise has 4 light novels and 5 games, excluding special editions and reboot as that is in a different universe. And SE doesn’t have anything important lore wise BUT VERGIL. The sole reason of why you should get one yourself. intense funny close up build up

Anyways, so 4 LNs and 5 games. And the chronological order is NOT what it should be.

So the game are as follows, there’s dmc1 , dmc2 , dmc3 then dmc4 and lastly dmc5. And the novels are as follows, dmc volume 1, dmc volume 2 then skip to dmc 4 : deadly fortune and last DMC5: before the nightmare. And you might be wondering, why is there no novel for dmc3, I’ll tell you in a bit.

So the normal arrangement would be : first DMC vol1 then the dmc1 game, then vol2 before the game dmc2, then dmc3 then the novel dmc4 deadly fortune and then dmc5 before the nightmare then the last game right? BUT UHH UHH UHH!!

It’s gets a little messy. And again, I’m not gonna talk about what happens in each and every one of them but give you an outline of how it all works out.

So all the novels are just before the games BUT the games takes place differently.

So the first game at the start of this franchise, lorewise, IS not dmc1 but none other than “drumroll” Devil May Cry 3, yes, DMC 3 and ik most of the people knew this already. But one of the things I would like to call out is that Dante hasn’t gotten his guns, Ebony and Ivory yet, lorewise that is, he gets his gun in the first novel which is set after dmc3 which I think causes a blunder, lore wise, like how can he have his guns already? Unfortunately, there’s no answer to that . I mean if you know, comment . It could be that the developers just went * meh *

Ok, so at the end of dmc3 , Vergil is captured and becomes a slave to mundus as Nelo Angelo ,he appears in dmc1 game. And the novel volume 1 comes in between dmc3 and dmc1 game where Dante goes by the alias “Tony Redgrave”, Redgrave as in the town he was born in, gets his sweet guns, Ebony and Ivory, by Nell Goldstein, Nico’s grandmother. And btw do you all know who Nico’s father is? Take a guess. …It’s Agnus from dmc4. Yeah ,I was shocked too, like DAMN, how is this related to THIS?! But good thing Nico was raised by her grandmother, and not her crazy dad.

Anyways, moving on.

So firstly , dmc3, DMC vol 1 where he gets his guns and then dmc1 game where he fights Nelo Angelo and the next is DMC…4: Deadly fortune. Yeah exhausted sigh The LN is just the prequel of dmc4 , nothing too big and after the novel comes the game DMC4 with a new protagonist Nero, also the game which got me into dmc, and he and Dante together stops a crazy cult tryna be gods and worships Dante’s father, Sparda. AND after all this, comes the dmc volume 2, you can skip it ,there’s nothing fun or important in it. And then after that, the dmc2 game, and people say that it isn’t canon BUT it is.

Because at the end of dmc2, Dante saves everyone from Argosax and then comes DMC5 before the nightmare, where Dante goes to an island and that is where he gets Balrog WHICH he uses in dmc5.

So the final order is - dmc3 → dmc vol1 → dmc 1 → dmc4 Deadly Fortune → dmc4 → dmc vol2 → dmc2 the game → dmc5 Before the Nightmare → dmc5

AND WE’RE DONE. Whew, that was…DAMN. Oh and in the new series story is on dmc3 was because

1. His coat, its similar, those shoulder pads.

2. He doesn’t has Ebony and ivory cause if we go by the lore, he shouldn’t have them and i think the series is trying to do that.

3.He looks young too. Duh.
